Camden has been working with the Euston Partnership organisations (HS2, Network Rail, Lendlease, TfL and GLA) to develop a Social Value Charter for development at Euston. It will set out the Partnership’s commitment to delivering social value in its projects, through planning, construction and in operation. This work has commenced by identifying draft social value objectives and the aim is to develop corresponding outcomes and measures linking to the Good Life work to arrive at a shared understanding of Social Value, Monitoring, Assessment & Action.
Drawing on existing commitments and public engagement to date, the Partnership have identified 11 draft Social Value objectives:
1) Community, inclusion and equity: Ensure inclusion, accessibility and equity in all development, private and public, and provide social infrastructure that enriches community life and resilience.
2) Engagement: Ensure engagement is inclusive through strategic collaboration and cocreation with all of Euston’s diverse communities, providing a range of engagement opportunities that encourage participation, keep communities informed and offer opportunities to shape decisions.
3) Housing: Deliver housing for all to enable mixed and balanced communities.
4) Economy, employment and learning: Support the local economy, provide equitable and accessible life-long learning and build a stable local labour market that is accessible to everyone.
5) Open space and public realm: Deliver high-quality, inclusive parks and open spaces and facilitate safe, green and welcoming street environments.
6) Transport: Prioritise active, sustainable and accessible transport modes while promoting a positive customer experience.
7) Construction phase: Minimise the impacts of construction and ensure that Euston remains a ‘place’ while development is underway.
8) Health: Bolster wellbeing and community resilience with improved physical and mental health outcomes.
9) Public Safety: Implement measures to maximise public safety
10) Culture: Create a meaningful environment that stimulates expression of and supports access to creativity, culture and identity.
11) Sustainability: Support the delivery of the Euston Partnership’s Sustainability Strategy, creating a landmark environmentally regenerative place that is healthy and resilient and showcases leading-edge environmental solutions
The topic was discussed as part of a workshop that we held with community and business representatives on 17 November. The slides from the session (including more information about what we mean by ‘social value’) and the comments received as part of the workshop discussion are provided below for information. There is an opportunity for you to share your views until 5 January 2021.
